The Notifications page is your SolaProjects inbox. It lists the in-app notifications sent to you — when someone @mentions you in a task comment, when someone comments on a task you follow, and (for owners and Finance administrators) messages about the SolaCount connection. It also holds your notification preferences (in-app, email digest, overdue reminders, live refresh, browser alerts) and a My overdue tasks list.
Use it to catch up on conversations, to clear what you have handled, and to decide how much SolaProjects should contact you. Every user has their own Notifications page; nobody can see or change anyone else's.
Where to find it
| How | Details |
|---|---|
| Sidebar | Menu → Notifications (bell icon). |
| Top bar | The bell icon opens this page. A red number on the bell counts your unread SolaProjects notifications in the current organization (99+ above 99). |
| Keyboard | Press G then N (outside a text field). |
| Command palette | Ctrl K (Cmd K on Mac) → type Notifications. |
| URL | /projects/notifications. |
Who sees it: every user who can open SolaProjects, on every plan. The page shows only your notifications in the current organization — switching workspace shows that workspace's notifications and preferences.
Until 5 October 2026 the top-bar bell did nothing when clicked. It now opens this page, and since 10 October it also shows the unread count. On a phone the bell stays in the bar; language and theme move into the account menu (Top bar and account menu).
Screen tour
The page has three cards, top to bottom.
1. Notifications card
| Element | Position | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Title Notifications with the count line N unread, N read | Card header, left | Totals across all your SolaProjects notifications in this organization. |
| Status selector | Card header, right | Unread (default), Read or All. |
| Mark all read | Card header, right | Marks every unread notification as read. |
| Notification rows | Card body | Up to the 25 most recent notifications for the selected status, newest first. |
Each row shows:
| Part | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Level badge | info (blue), warning (amber), error/danger (red) or success (green). Most SolaProjects notifications are info. |
| Title | For example You were mentioned, New task comment, SolaCount Premium is ready. |
| Body | One sentence, for example Omar Haddad mentioned you on Install display lighting. |
| Date | When it was created (short date). |
| Open | Shown when the notification points somewhere — opens the task (its project's Tasks tab with the task panel open) or the workspace Integrations page. |
| Mark read / Mark unread | Toggles the read state of that one notification. |
Empty states: No unread notifications (Unread filter) or No notifications (Read / All).
2. Notification preferences card
| Control | Type | Default | What it controls |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-app notifications | Switch | On | Master switch for in-app notifications. When off, @mentions and Task follower updates are greyed out and you receive no new mention or comment notifications. |
| @mentions | Checkbox | On | Notify you when someone @mentions you in a task comment. |
| Task follower updates | Checkbox | On | Notify you when someone comments on a task you follow (are a watcher of). |
| Overdue task reminders | Checkbox | On | Include your overdue tasks in the email digest. |
| Email digest | Dropdown: Daily, Weekly, Off | Daily | Sends an email summary of your unread notifications (and overdue tasks if reminders are on). Off stops the digest. |
| Live refresh | Switch | On | Refreshes the list quietly when you come back to this browser tab after at least a minute away. It does not reload on a timer any more (removed 10 October 2026), so the list never jumps while you are reading it. |
| Enable browser alerts / Disable browser alerts | Button | Off | Desktop pop-ups from your browser for new unread notifications while the page is open. |
Every change saves immediately — there is no Save button. Each change shows a notice (see Tasks below).
3. My overdue tasks card
Your overdue tasks: assigned to you, due date before today, status not Done or Cancelled, in projects you can see. Up to 10 rows, each with the task key (for example ALN-FIT-14), the title, the project and the status badge. With none: Nothing overdue — "You're all caught up."
If the page cannot load you see Unable to load this page — "Check your connection, then try loading the page again." with Retry.
What creates a notification
| Notification | Title / body | Who receives it | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mention | You were mentioned — "Name mentioned you on task title." | Each project member @mentioned in a task comment. | Recipient is a member of the project, can view the task, and has In-app notifications and @mentions on. You are never notified about your own comment. |
| Follower comment | New task comment — "Name commented on task title." | Every watcher (follower) of the task. | Recipient can view the task and has In-app notifications and Task follower updates on. A watcher who was also @mentioned gets only the mention. |
| SolaCount Premium is ready | "You can now connect SolaCount with SolaProjects and add financial visibility to your existing projects. Your projects will not be copied or recreated." | Organization owner and Finance administrators. | Your organization gained the SolaCount plan needed for the connection. Up to two reminders follow (after about 24 hours and 7 days) unless you connect or choose Don't remind me. |
| SolaCount connection requested | "Name asked an administrator to review the SolaCount connection." | Owner and Finance administrators. | Someone clicked Notify an administrator on the Integrations page (at most once per day). |
| Connection complete | "SolaCount is connected to your existing projects. No projects were copied or recreated." | Owner and Finance administrators. | The connection finished. |
| SolaCount connection needs attention | "One or more connection safety checks require review. Your projects and historical relationships remain preserved." | Owner and Finance administrators. | A connection health check failed. |
Rules that apply to every notification:
- Internal comments stay internal. A comment marked internal never notifies a project guest.
- No duplicates. Each event creates one notification per person; repeating it (for example editing the same comment) refreshes the existing notification instead of adding another.
- SolaCount notifications follow the organization's document language. If it is Arabic, the title and body are in Arabic.
- The page only lists SolaProjects notifications (task and project notifications, timesheet notifications and anything that links into
/projects/).
How @mentions are matched
Type @ followed by one of these for a project member:
| You type | Matches |
|---|---|
@sara khan |
The full name (any capitals). |
@sara-khan |
The name with hyphens. |
@sarakhan |
The name without spaces. |
@sara.khan@alnoor.ae |
The full email address. |
@sara.khan |
The part of the email before @. |
Only members of the task's project can be mentioned. Mentioning someone who is not on the project's Team does nothing.
Tasks
Read and clear notifications
- Open Notifications. The list shows Unread first.
- Click Open on a row to go to the task or page it refers to. Opening does not mark it read.
- Click Mark read on the row. You see Notification marked read. and the row leaves the Unread list.
- To clear everything at once click Mark all read. You see All notifications marked read.
Mark a notification unread again
- Change the selector to Read (or All).
- Click Mark unread on the row. You see Notification marked unread.
Change your preferences
- Scroll to Notification preferences.
- Change a switch, checkbox or the Email digest dropdown.
- The change saves at once: Notification preferences saved.
Error messages:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| You cannot change that notification. | The notification is not yours or no longer exists. Reload the page. |
| Check the notification settings and try again. | A value was not accepted. |
| The notification update did not save. | The save failed (for example the connection dropped). Reload and check the current setting before trying again. |
Turn on browser alerts
- Click Enable browser alerts.
- Your browser asks for permission to show notifications. Click Allow.
- You see Browser alerts enabled. The button changes to Disable browser alerts.
If you block the permission you see Browser alerts are not enabled. If the browser cannot show alerts at all: This browser does not support notification alerts. To turn alerts off click Disable browser alerts → Browser alerts disabled.
Browser alerts appear only while the Notifications page is open in a tab, and one at a time for the newest unread notification you have not been alerted about yet. If you blocked the permission earlier, allow it again in your browser's site settings first.
Set up the email digest
- In Email digest choose Daily or Weekly.
- Leave Overdue task reminders ticked if you want your overdue tasks listed in the email.
The digest email is titled SolaProjects digest and contains:
- Unread notifications: up to 20, each as "title: body";
- Overdue tasks: up to 10, each as "[Project name] task title" (only when Overdue task reminders is on);
- the line "Open SolaProjects to review and mark items as read."
No email is sent when you have no unread notifications and (with reminders on) no overdue tasks. The digest does not mark anything as read.
Statuses
| State | Meaning | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Unread | New, not yet marked read. Counted in N unread; included in the email digest. | Open, Mark read, Mark all read. |
| Read | Marked read by you. | Open, Mark unread. |
Permissions
| Role | Receives | Can do |
|---|---|---|
| Any SolaProjects user | Mentions and follower comments on tasks they can view. | Read, mark read/unread, change their own preferences. |
| Organization owner / Finance administrator | Also the SolaCount connection notifications. | Same as above. |
| Project guest (client) | Mentions/follower comments only for comments that are not internal, on tasks they can view. | — |
| Anyone else | Nothing about other people. | Cannot see or change another person's notifications or preferences. |
Worked examples
Example 1 — a mention
Omar Haddad, project Manager on Al Noor Showroom Fit-out (ALN-FIT), writes on task ALN-FIT-14 Install display lighting: "@sara.khan can you confirm the fixtures arrived at Dubai Main?"
- Sara Khan (email
sara.khan@alnoor.ae, project Member) gets You were mentioned — "Omar Haddad mentioned you on Install display lighting." - Her count line changes to 1 unread, 14 read.
- She clicks Open; the Tasks tab opens with
ALN-FIT-14in the side panel. She replies. - Omar follows the task, so he gets New task comment — "Sara Khan commented on Install display lighting." Sara is not notified about her own reply.
- Sara returns, clicks Mark read → Notification marked read.
Example 2 — tuning notifications for a busy manager
Layla Mansour manages four projects and follows 30 tasks. She is getting too many comment notifications.
- She clears Task follower updates → Notification preferences saved. She still gets @mentions.
- She sets Email digest to Weekly and keeps Overdue task reminders ticked.
- She clicks Mark all read to start clean: 0 unread, 112 read.
- On Sunday her weekly email lists 3 unread mentions and 2 overdue tasks: "[Al Noor Showroom Fit-out] Snag list walkthrough" and "[Jumeirah Villa Renovation] Submit permit drawings".
- As organization owner she also receives SolaCount Premium is ready after the plan upgrade; she clicks Open, which takes her to Integrations to connect.
How it connects
| From | To Notifications |
|---|---|
| Tasks comments and watchers | Mentions and follower comments. Following a task (watchers) is set in the task panel. |
| Team | Only project members can be @mentioned. |
| Integrations | SolaCount connection notifications and Notify an administrator requests. |
| Dashboard / My Tasks | The same overdue tasks appear in Latest tasks on the Dashboard. |
Tips and common problems
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| I was @mentioned but got nothing. | You are not a member of that project, you cannot view the task, the comment was internal and you are a guest, or @mentions/In-app notifications is off. | Ask to be added on the project's Team tab; check your preferences. |
| My @mention didn't notify a colleague. | The text after @ did not match their name or email, or they are not on the project. |
Use their full name or the part of their email before @. |
| @mentions is greyed out. | In-app notifications is off. | Turn In-app notifications on. |
| I don't receive the email digest. | Email digest is Off, or there was nothing unread. | Choose Daily or Weekly; leave an item unread to test. |
| Browser alerts never appear. | Permission denied, the page is not open, or alerts are disabled. | Allow notifications for the site in your browser and keep the Notifications tab open. |
| An item is missing from the list. | The list shows only the 25 newest for the chosen status. | Mark older items read, or switch the filter. |
| I see SolaCount messages I can't act on. | You were an owner/Finance administrator when they were sent. | Mark them read; the Integrations page shows the current state. |
