Dashboard

Last updated

The Dashboard is the SolaProjects home page. It gives you one live view of every active project you are allowed to see: how many projects are running, how many tasks are late or due soon, which projects are at risk, what changed recently, and which of your tasks need attention today. It also shows whether SolaProjects is connected to SolaCount.

Use it at the start of the day to decide where to look first, and during the day as a monitor — it refreshes itself when you come back to the tab. Everyone with SolaProjects access uses it; what each person sees depends on which projects they can open.

Where to find it

How Details
Sidebar Menu → Dashboard (first item, house icon).
Logo Click the SolaProjects logo in the top bar. See Top bar and account menu.
Keyboard Press G then D (outside a text field).
Command palette Ctrl K (Cmd K on Mac) → type Dashboard.
URL /projects/dashboard. Opening /projects/ also lands here.
Portal Workspace Home → Your apps → SolaProjects → Open app opens the Dashboard.

Who sees it: every active organization member with a SolaProjects role (or the organization owner). There is no plan gate — the Dashboard is available on every plan, including Free.

What it counts: only active projects (any status except Archived) that you can see:

Your access Projects included
Organization owner or Projects Administrator Every project in the organization, except any project you have been explicitly restricted from in the Portal.
Projects Manager or Projects Member Only projects where you are a member (Manager, Member or Viewer on the project's Team tab).

Two people in the same organization can therefore see different numbers on the same Dashboard.

Screen tour

The page is a column of cards. From top to bottom:

Position Element What it is
Very top (only when your paid plan has lapsed) Plan banner "Your Professional plan has expired — SolaProjects is running on the free tier — paid features are locked. Renew to restore full access." with Renew plan and a close (×) button. See Plan banner.
Top-left Page title Dashboard A heading at the start of the row, so every page has a visible title (added 10 October 2026; the breadcrumb row no longer repeats it).
Top-right Widgets button On the same row as the title. Opens the Dashboard widgets panel where you choose which cards to show and in what order.
Row 1 Workspace stats Four headline counters.
Row 2 SolaCount readiness card Connection status with SolaCount and a View details link.
Row 3 Activity over time Year heat map of task updates.
Row 4 (two columns) Your team's progress · Profit Tasks-by-status donut · finance placeholder.
Row 5 (three columns) Projects completion · Website traffic · Projects taken Completion gauge · analytics placeholder · projects created per month.
Row 6 (two columns) Commits over time · Recent activity Tasks created vs completed · latest project events.
Row 7 Recent projects Your five most recently updated projects.
Row 8 Latest tasks Your overdue tasks and tasks due today.
Bottom Footer "SolaProjects · SolaVel — All rights reserved."

While data is loading each card shows a grey placeholder. If the whole Dashboard cannot load you see Unable to load this page — "Check your connection, then try loading the page again." with Retry.

Headline counters (Workspace stats)

Counter Label under the number How it is calculated
N active projects in flight Number of visible projects that are not archived.
N overdue tasks past due Tasks in those projects with a due date before today and a status other than Done or Cancelled.
N due in the next 7 days Open tasks (Backlog, To Do, In Progress, Review) with a due date from today up to and including the date seven days from now.
N at-risk projects need attention Visible projects whose health is At risk, Blocked, Delayed or Warning. See Project health.

Until 5 October 2026 the due counter stopped at the end of the calendar week, so late in the week it showed fewer tasks than its label promised. It now looks a full seven days ahead.

SolaCount readiness card

The card shows the SolaCount logo, a status badge and one sentence:

Badge Sentence Button(s)

Ready to connect Finance is ready. Continue the connection setup when you are ready. View details

If you cannot manage the connection, a second line reads "Ask your organization owner or Finance administrator to complete setup." View details opens the workspace Integrations page. The card re-checks the status whenever you return to the browser tab. If Complete Finance setup cannot open the setup page you see "Could not open Finance setup. Please retry."

Activity over time

"Tasks updated per day · this year". A heat map of the whole calendar year (January to December), one square per day, Monday to Sunday top to bottom. Darker teal means more task updates that day relative to your busiest day. Hover a square to see, for example, Monday, June 8, 2026 — 12 tasks updated · 3 days ago. Future days are grey and show "in N days · upcoming". The legend runs Less → More.

Your team's progress

"Tasks by status". A donut of all tasks in your visible projects grouped by Backlog, To Do, In Progress, Review, Done and Cancelled (statuses with zero tasks are left out). With no tasks: No tasks yet.

Projects completion

"Average success rate". A gauge from 0–100 %. If some visible projects have been completed, it is completed projects ÷ all visible active projects; otherwise it is the average progress of your visible projects.

Projects taken

"Created · last 6 months". Bars per month (for example May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct) counting visible projects created in each month. With none: No projects yet.

Commits over time

"Tasks created vs completed · last 8 weeks". Two areas, Created and Completed, one point per week (labelled by the week's Monday, for example Aug 17). With no activity: No task activity yet.

Profit and Website traffic

These two cards are placeholders with no data source in SolaProjects. They always show No financial data — "Profit reporting isn't connected yet." and No traffic data — "Analytics isn't connected yet." Project profit lives on each project's Overview finance section and in SolaCount. Hide these cards with Widgets if you do not want them (see Customize the Dashboard).

Recent activity

The latest 8 events across your visible projects — who did what, in which project, and when (for example Sara Khan — Task status changed · Al Noor Showroom Fit-out · Oct 4). The icon shows the kind of event (created, completed, status change, comment, deleted/archived, edit). The card header carries an Auto refresh badge; the feed is refreshed when you return to the tab after a while (see Refresh), not on a timer. With no events: No activity yet — "Recent project events will appear here." For the full history of one project use its Activity tab.

Recent projects

Up to five active projects you can see, most recently updated first. Each row shows the project name, code, the number of open tasks, a red N overdue pill when it has overdue tasks, and the project status badge. Click a row to open the project's Overview. With none: No projects yet — "Projects you can access will appear here."

Latest tasks (My work)

Your own work: tasks assigned to you that are overdue (up to 5, oldest due date first) followed by tasks due today (up to 5) — at most 10 rows.

Column Meaning
Name Task key (for example ALN-FIT-14) and title. Click to open the task in its project's Tasks tab with the task panel open.
Status Task status badge.
Project The project the task belongs to.
Due date Short date; shown in red and bold when it has passed.

With nothing due: Nothing needs attention — "No overdue or due-today tasks."

Tasks

Read the Dashboard each morning

  1. Open Dashboard.
  2. Check overdue and at-risk. If either is above zero, open the projects concerned from Recent projects or the Projects list (filter by health).
  3. Work through Latest tasks — click a task to open it, update it, then come back with G D.
  4. Glance at Recent activity to see what the team changed since yesterday.

Customize the Dashboard

  1. Click Widgets (top-right). The Dashboard widgets panel opens — "Choose the cards and order saved for your workspace dashboard."

  2. Tick or clear each widget:

Widget in the panel Cards it controls
Workspace stats The four headline counters.
SolaCount integration The SolaCount readiness card.
    Activity heatmap Activity over time.
Task status chart Your team's progress.
Completion chart Projects completion and the Profit placeholder.
Projects taken chart Projects taken and the Website traffic placeholder.
Tasks over time chart Commits over time.
    Recent activity Recent activity.
    Recent projects Recent projects.
    My work Latest tasks.
  3. Optionally use the ↑ / ↓ arrows to change the order of the list. The Dashboard follows this order.

  4. Click Save layout. You see Layout saved. and the Dashboard reloads with your choice. If saving fails you see the server message or "Could not save the dashboard layout."

  5. Click Widgets again to close the panel.

Rules:

  • Your layout is personal and stored per organization — switching workspace gives you that workspace's layout.
  • Unticking a widget only hides it for you; nobody else is affected and no data is deleted.
  • New widgets added in future releases appear automatically at the end, switched on.
  • The Dashboard shows the cards in the order you saved. Cards that share a row (Your team's progress with Profit; Projects completion with Website traffic and Projects taken; Commits over time with Recent activity) move together as one row, placed where the first of their widgets sits in your list. Both the order and the visibility are personal.
  • While the Dashboard widgets panel is open, a refresh of the page data never overwrites the list you are editing.

Refresh

The Dashboard no longer reloads on a 30-second timer (removed on 10 October 2026). It now refreshes:

  • when you save your widget layout or click Retry;
  • quietly when you come back to the browser tab after being away for at least one minute. The numbers update in place: the cards do not turn grey and nothing you were doing is lost. If that background refresh fails, the figures you already see stay on screen.

There is no manual refresh button; reload the page (or press G D) if you want to force it. The SolaCount card also re-checks when you return to the tab.

Plan banner

When your organization's paid SolaProjects plan has lapsed, SolaProjects falls back to the Free tier:

  • The Dashboard shows the amber banner "Your plan name plan has expired" with Renew plan (opens the Portal renewal page) and × to dismiss it.
  • Dismissing hides the banner on this browser until the expired plan changes.
  • The Plan expired · Renew badge stays in the top bar on every page until the plan is renewed.

Statuses shown on the Dashboard

Item Values Where they come from
Project status badge For example Active, Planning, On Hold, Completed The project's status in Projects / Settings. Archived projects never appear.
Project health (at-risk counter) At risk, Blocked, Delayed, Warning count as at-risk The project's health, recalculated from its tasks each time the Dashboard loads, so it agrees with Reports (until 5 October 2026 a stored value that no screen updated could show On track while Reports showed a problem).
Task status Backlog, To Do, In Progress, Review, Done, Cancelled Each task's status in Tasks. Open = Backlog, To Do, In Progress, Review.

Permissions

Role Sees Can change
Organization owner All active projects in the organization. Own widget layout. Can act on the SolaCount card (via Integrations).
Projects Administrator All active projects, except explicitly restricted ones. Own widget layout.
Projects Manager Active projects where they are a project member. Own widget layout.
Projects Member Active projects where they are a project member. Own widget layout.
Finance administrator (SolaCount) As their SolaProjects role allows. Can complete the SolaCount connection from the card's links.
Member with a suspended membership or no SolaProjects role Nothing — the app does not open. —

Latest tasks always shows only tasks assigned to the signed-in user. The Dashboard itself never writes project data; the only thing you can save is your widget layout.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a quick morning check

Sara Khan is a Projects Member at Al Noor Trading LLC and belongs to two projects: Al Noor Showroom Fit-out (ALN-FIT) and Dubai Main Warehouse Racking (DMW-RCK). On Tuesday 6 October she opens the Dashboard:

Counter Value
active 2
overdue 3
due 5
at-risk 1

Latest tasks shows:

Name Status Project Due date
ALN-FIT-14 Install display lighting In Progress Al Noor Showroom Fit-out Oct 2 (red)
DMW-RCK-7 Confirm racking load test To Do Dubai Main Warehouse Racking Oct 6

She clicks ALN-FIT-14; the project's Tasks tab opens with the task panel. She moves it to Review, presses G D, and the overdue counter has dropped to 2 and Recent activity shows Sara Khan — Task status changed (a fresh visit to the Dashboard always shows current figures; if she had left the Dashboard open in another tab, it updates when she switches back after a minute).

Example 2 — an administrator tailoring the Dashboard

Omar Haddad is the Projects Administrator and sees all 9 active projects. The Profit and Website traffic placeholders are not useful to him, and he wants the at-risk count and his own tasks in view.

  1. He clicks Widgets, clears Completion chart and Projects taken chart, and leaves everything else ticked.
  2. He clicks Save layout → Layout saved. The Projects completion, Profit, Website traffic and Projects taken cards disappear.
  3. The counters read 9 active · 7 overdue · 12 due · 2 at-risk. He opens Projects, filters on health and finds Jumeirah Villa Renovation (Delayed) and Al Noor Showroom Fit-out (At risk).
  4. On Al Noor Showroom Fit-out he opens the Overview, sees four overdue tasks under attention items, and reassigns two of them to Sara on the Tasks tab.
  5. Back on the Dashboard, the SolaCount card shows Ready to connect. He is not the owner, so the card adds "Ask your organization owner or Finance administrator to complete setup." He clicks View details and uses Notify an administrator on the Integrations page.

Sara's Dashboard is unchanged — Omar's widget choice is personal.

How it connects

Dashboard element Comes from / leads to
Counters, charts, Recent projects Projects and Tasks in every project you can see.
At-risk counter Project health set on each project (Overview, Settings).
Recent activity The project activity log — the same events as each project's Activity tab.
Latest tasks Your assigned tasks; the full list is in My Tasks.
SolaCount card The workspace Integrations page and SolaCount.
Which projects count Portal Team roles and each project's Team membership.

Tips and common problems

Problem Cause Fix
A project is missing from the counts. It is archived, or you are not a member of it (Managers/Members), or you have a Portal restriction on it. Restore it in Projects, or ask a project Manager to add you on the Team tab.
My colleague sees different numbers. Counts follow each person's project visibility. Expected. Administrators and owners see all projects.
due is lower than I expect. It counts only to the end of the current week. Use the Calendar or My Tasks for a longer look-ahead.
Latest tasks is empty but I have overdue work. Only tasks assigned to you count, and only in active projects you can see. Check the task's assignee; check My Tasks.
Profit says "Profit reporting isn't connected yet." even with SolaCount connected. The Dashboard Profit card is a placeholder. Use each project's Overview finance section; hide the card with Widgets → Completion chart (this also hides Projects completion).
Reordering the widgets did not move the cards. You did not click Save layout, or two cards share a row and move together. Click Save layout; remember that a shared row follows its first widget.
The numbers did not change after I fixed a task in another tab. The Dashboard refreshes when you return after a minute, not on a timer. Reload, or press G D.
Unable to load this page. Network or session problem. Click Retry; if your session expired, reload and sign in again.
We couldn't verify your plan. The plan could not be confirmed for a moment. Wait and click Retry. It is not a plan change.
The plan banner came back. The expired plan changed, or you are on another browser. Renew, or dismiss again.
