Tips

Last updated

Tips are amounts an employee received from customers (or a tip pool share) that you pay out through payroll. Every tip dated in a month is added to that month's gross pay in the payroll run. Tips need no approval.

Use this screen in restaurants, cafés, salons and other businesses where tips are collected centrally and paid with salary.

Where to find it

  • Sidebar: Payroll & Compensation → Tips. URL: /tips.

The menu item appears when your plan includes tips and your role has View advances, deductions, tips, overtime (the finance view permission).

Column Meaning
Employee Employee name.
Date Date of the tip. Decides the payroll month.
Amount Amount paid out.
Reason Reason, or —.
(⋯) Edit, Delete (managers only).

The list shows the 15 most recent tips by date. Empty state: No records found.

Add a tip

  1. Click Add record.

  2. Fill in:

    Field Required Rules / defaults
    Employee Yes Any employee.
Date Yes Default today. Any date.
    Amount Yes At least 0.01.
Reason No Up to 255 characters, for example Tip pool week 2.
  3. Click Save. You see Updated successfully.

Edit or delete a tip

  • ⋯ → Edit: change any field and click Save.
  • ⋯ → Delete: confirm Delete this record? — Delete.

Tips are never locked. But once the month's run is approved, it no longer recalculates, so changing or deleting a tip for that month does not change what was paid. Make corrections in an open month.

How tips are paid

  • The run adds all tips dated in the month to gross pay (shown on the breakdown as Total tips).
  • On the payslip, tips are included in Bonuses & Incentives and listed as Tips on the print.
  • Tips are part of gross pay, so tax and contribution rules based on Gross pay apply to them.

Tips and Additional Earnings items of type tip are separate: the first need no approval, the second do.

Worked example 1: one tip

On 18 October 2026 a corporate client leaves AED 200 for Sara Khan's service. Sara's manager clicks Add record: Sara Khan, 18/10/2026, 200, reason Client gratuity. The Filtered total rises by 200.00.

Worked example 2: weekly tip pool

Al Noor Trading LLC's café shares its tip box weekly. For the week ending 11 October the box held AED 900, split between Omar Haddad (AED 500) and Sara Khan (AED 400).

  1. The supervisor adds two records dated 11/10/2026 with reason Tip pool week 2.
  2. She repeats this every week of October; Omar's October tips total AED 1,900.
  3. On 25 October the October run (Draft) shows Omar's breakdown Total tips 1,900.00, and his gross pay includes it.
  4. The run is approved on 26 October. On 30 October the supervisor adds a late tip dated 29/10; it is not in October's pay because the run no longer recalculates. She deletes it and re-enters it dated 1 November so it is paid in November.
