Packing

Last updated

A pack records how picked stock was put into cartons or pallets for a sales order: how many packages, which carrier and tracking number, and how much of each line went in. The page says: "Packs cartonize picked stock. Packing does not move stock; the stock OUT happens at shipment."

Packing is optional and only possible after a pick list is finished. Use it when you need a packing record before shipping.

Who uses it: warehouse operators and managers in the order's warehouse.

Where to find it

Panel Sales order (link) and Pick list (#n).
Form (until packed) Carrier, Tracking #, Packages.
Lines table Item (#id), Lot / Serial, Picked, Packed (input until packed).
Action bar Save pack, Mark packed, then Go to order to ship.

Tracking # No Up to 100 characters. For your reference.

Packed (per line) — 0 up to the picked quantity. Pre-filled with the picked quantity.

Create a pack

  1. Open a pick list with status Picked (Picking).
  2. Click Create pack. You see "Pack created." and the pack opens as Draft.

Only lines with picked quantity are copied, keeping their lot/serial.

Message Cause
"Pick list n must be picked before packing …" The pick list is not finished.
"Pick list n already belongs to an active pack." A pack already exists for it; open it from Packing.
"The pack could not be created." Any other failure.

Record packing

  1. Fill in Carrier, Tracking # and Packages.
  2. Check each line's Packed quantity (pre-filled with Picked).
  3. Click Save pack. You see "Pack saved."

You cannot pack more than picked: "Cannot pack 12 for line 7: only 10 picked." Other failures show "The pack could not be saved."

Mark packed

  1. Click Save pack first. The pre-filled figures are only on screen until saved; Mark packed uses saved quantities.
  2. Click Mark packed and confirm the dialog ("This completes the current fulfillment step. Review the recorded quantities before continuing.").
  3. You see "Pack marked packed." The pack is locked.

What happens:

  • Each order line's Packed quantity is set from the pack.
  • The order becomes Packed when every line's packed quantity reaches the ordered quantity, otherwise Packing.
  • When connected to SolaCount, a Package packed event is recorded (no journal). Missing matches block the step.

Failure: "The pack could not be marked packed."

Go to order to ship

On a Packed pack, click Go to order to ship (needs Create & post shipments (stock OUT)). The sales order opens; click Create shipment there (Shipments).

Worked examples

Example 1: one pallet

PICK-SO-000031 (50 cartons of water) is Picked. Omar Haddad clicks Create pack, enters Carrier "Aramex", Packages 1, leaves Packed 50, Save pack, Mark packed. SO-000031 becomes Packed, Progress "Packed 50 / 50". He clicks Go to order to ship.

Example 2: partial pack across two pallets

PICK-SO-000032 picked 114 cartons of water and 2 scanners. The truck only fits 100 cartons today.

  1. Create pack → lines: water Picked 114, Serial #91 Picked 1, Serial #92 Picked 1.
  2. Omar sets Packages 2, Carrier "Own fleet", water Packed 100, scanners 1 and 1. Save pack.
  3. Mark packed → the order shows Packing (water packed 100 of 120). He goes to the order and creates the shipment; note that the shipment covers everything still unshipped (see Shipments).
