Top bar, search, favorites and the account menu

Last updated

The frame around every SolaCount page — the top bar, the search box, the organization switcher, the language and light/dark switches, the account menu, the Favorites list and the sidebar on small screens — behaves in specific ways that are worth knowing: what moves where on a phone, why switching organization keeps your language, why the account menu lists your other Solavel apps and a Documentation link, and how favorites are stored. This page describes each part and what it does. None of it posts anything or changes your books; it only changes how you move around and what you see.

The overall layout (icon rail, panel, top bar, SolaAI) is introduced in SolaCount; the search box in detail is in Global search.

Where to find it

Everything on this page is on every screen, in the top bar (across the top) and the sidebar (down the left, or the right in Arabic):

Part Where
Menu button Top-left (top-right in Arabic)
Organization switcher Next to the menu button
Search In the middle of the top bar
Quick Add, Contacts, Calendar, Language, Notifications, Report Issue, light/dark Right side of the top bar
Account menu The round avatar at the far end of the top bar
Favorites Dashboard rail panel in the sidebar
Quick List Sidebar, while a record page is open

The top bar, item by item

Control What it does
Menu (the list icon) Collapses and expands the sidebar panel on large screens, and opens the sidebar as a drawer on small ones.
Current organization Shows the organization's logo and name. See Switching organization.
Search pages, reports, invoices, bills... Instant page results plus record results; see Global search.
Quick Add A panel of "new" actions grouped as Sales (New Invoice, New Quote, New Sales Receipt, New Credit Note), Purchases, Banking and Inventory & Customers. You only see the actions your role allows (Roles and permissions). On screens up to 1280 px wide the panel opens full-width under the top bar so it never hides behind the sidebar or off the edge, in either text direction.
Contacts A searchable directory of customer and supplier contact cards (Search contacts...). Hidden unless you may view both customers and suppliers.
Finance Calendar A badge shows what is due; the preview lists Upcoming dates, No urgent dates when clear, and Full page opens the calendar.
Language Switches the interface language (see Language).
Notifications The bell, with an unread count; Mark all read.
Report Issue Opens a form (Report Issue: title, description, severity, steps, expected and actual result, screenshot) and See all your reports.
Toggle theme Sun/moon button: light or dark.
Account menu See The account menu.

If your paid plan has lapsed, a banner button in the top bar reads that the organization is on the free tier and links to renew.

Choosing an item closes the menu

A link inside a top-bar menu (Quick Add, Contacts, Calendar, Notifications, the organization list) closes that menu as soon as you choose it, because the next page opens without reloading the frame. Only one top-bar menu is open at a time, and Esc or a click elsewhere closes it.

Switching organization

Click the organization switcher to open Your organizations: the organizations you belong to, each with its logo, the one you are in marked, a small All button that opens the organizations list, and an add button that opens the portal's new-organization page in a new tab.

  • Click another organization to switch. SolaCount hands you through your Solavel sign-in to that organization's books; every list, report and search changes with it. Search, the calendar and SolaAI never mix organizations.
  • Click the organization you are already in and nothing happens except the menu closing. It no longer repeats the whole sign-in round trip.
  • Your language is kept. If you changed the interface language during this session, the organization you switch to opens in that same language rather than reverting to your account default (the choice is remembered for 15 minutes through the switch).
  • The switcher shrinks to a logo. While the search box is expanded (you are typing) and on screens up to 1024 px wide, the switcher collapses to a 40 px logo button so the search has room; its name and arrow return when the search closes. The full name is always in the button's tooltip.

Language

The Language menu offers English, العربية, Français, Русский, اردو, Deutsch, Español, 中文, Português, Türkçe and Italiano. Choosing one reloads the page in that language. Arabic and Urdu switch the whole page to right-to-left: the sidebar moves to the right and menus open towards the page; amounts and document numbers are kept left-to-right inside the right-to-left text so they read correctly. What follows the language:

  • Page text, buttons, dialogs and the status badges.
  • Messages after an action — "Saved", "Invoice voided…", validation errors — are translated into the language you are using, including the ones that appear as a flash notice after the page reloads.
  • Page names in search, status words in record results, PDF documents (including their status wording) and the headings and workbook details of Excel exports.

Your account can also have a preferred language and theme, set in your Solavel profile. They are applied when you launch SolaCount from the portal; a language you pick inside SolaCount is a temporary choice for the session, and launching the app again from the portal reapplies your saved one.

Light and dark mode

The Toggle theme button swaps between light and dark. The choice is stored in your browser (and in a cookie so the very first paint is already in the right theme), so it survives reloads on that device. If you have a preferred theme on your Solavel account it is used the first time on a new browser. Dark mode covers every page, including tables, toasts and confirmation dialogs, forms and the line editor, status badges, the organization list, the Favorites dialog and report tables; text and borders keep their contrast. If you meet a white box in dark mode, report it with Report Issue.

The account menu

Click your avatar. The menu shows your name and email and then:

  1. Solavel Portal — "Manage your account and organizations". It opens the portal in a new tab.
  2. Your other Solavel apps. One row per app you can open in this organization — SolaHR, SolaStock, SolaProjects — with its logo and an "opens elsewhere" arrow. Each opens in a new tab, signed in to the same organization, so SolaCount stays where you left it. An app is listed only if your Solavel access gives you a role in it for this organization; if no app is listed you have no other apps. The list is refreshed every few minutes and is only a convenience: every app checks your access again when you arrive.
    • Documentation — always the last row of this list, with the black Solavel logo (white in dark mode). It opens the SolaCount guides (these pages, starting at the SolaCount documentation home) in a new tab. Everyone sees it, whatever apps you have.
  3. Profile — your Solavel profile, in a new tab.
  4. Settings — SolaCount settings, if your role may view them.
  5. Log out.

Likewise, portal and organization links elsewhere in SolaCount (the organization hub, SolaStock and SolaProjects entries in the sidebar) open in a new tab, so they do not replace the page you are working on.

Favorites

Favorites are shortcuts you choose, shown at the bottom of the Dashboard panel in the sidebar.

  1. Open the Dashboard rail. Under Favorites click Add.
  2. In Select Favorite Tabs, type in Search favorites... to narrow the list. The choices are split into Tabs (sidebar pages) and Reports; tick the ones you want. Only pages you can open are offered. If nothing matches you see No matching favorites.
  3. Click Save Favorites (or Cancel, or the close button, or press Esc).

Your favorites then appear under Favorites, reports first and pages after. With none chosen you see No favorites selected yet. The dialog sits above the sidebar and the top bar on every screen size, traps keyboard focus, and returns focus to the Add button when it closes.

Favorites are stored in the browser you are using, per browser and per device — not in your account — so a favorite chosen on your laptop does not appear on your phone, and clearing site data removes them.

Quick List

While you have a record page open (for example one invoice at /ar/invoices/…), the sidebar swaps its menu for a Quick List of that document type: a searchable, filterable list of the other records, with the current one highlighted. Click a row to jump to it without going back to the list. Back to menu returns to the ordinary sidebar; the Quick List comes back with your search text and scroll position when you open another record of the same type. It is not offered on "new" (create) pages, and navigating anywhere else closes it.

Small screens and the hidden rail

Screen width What changes
Wider than 1024 px Icon rail and panel are always in the page; the Menu button collapses the panel (remembered in your browser).
1024 px and narrower The icon rail and panel are hidden. The Menu button opens them together as a drawer over the page; the drawer opens just below the top bar, closes when you open a page, press Esc or Close navigation, and also closes by itself if the window is resized (for example when you rotate a tablet), so a drawer never stays stuck open. The organization switcher shows its logo only. Contacts, Finance Calendar and Report Issue leave the top bar and appear in a ⋯ (More) menu next to your avatar.
640 px and narrower Language and Toggle theme join the ⋯ menu too; the avatar's arrow is hidden. Page padding tightens and wide tables scroll inside their card rather than the whole page.

A choice in the ⋯ menu opens the same panel or dialog as the hidden button (the badge counts, such as the unread notifications, are copied across). The ⋯ menu keeps itself on screen, in both text directions.

On a phone, document lines turn into cards with their own labelled Price field, so the label, the input and the price-source note never overlap. Dropdowns open inside the visible area and above the sidebar.

Settings overview layout

Settings (/settings) arranges its section cards in two columns on screens 1280 px and wider and in one column below that. Cards are packed without empty gaps, and a lone last tile fills its row.

Worked example 1: Rana sets up her day (desktop)

Rana is an accountant at Al Noor Trading LLC. She opens Dashboard → Favorites → Add, searches aging, ticks AR Aging Summary under Reports and Invoices under Tabs, and clicks Save Favorites. Every morning she opens SolaCount, uses the favorites to jump straight to the aging report and the invoice list, presses the Toggle theme button because she works late, and uses the Language menu to switch to Arabic when she prepares the Arabic statement for a customer. Nothing here changes any figures: aging is the same in either theme or language.

When she moves to the group's second company with the organization switcher, SolaCount opens it in Arabic, as she was working, and her favorites are still there because they belong to the browser.

Worked example 2: Omar on a phone

Omar, a Sales user, opens /ar/invoices on his phone (390 px wide). He sees the invoice list, the Menu button, a logo-only organization switcher, search, Quick Add and his avatar; Contacts and Calendar are under ⋯. He types noor in search: the sidebar page matches appear straight away and the records follow. He opens invoice INV-1130, so the sidebar's Quick List shows the other invoices; he taps Back to menu to see the ordinary menu. In the invoice's lines each price is a labelled box, and he can read Price and its source note without them overlapping. When he opens the account menu and taps SolaStock, the warehouse app opens in a new tab and SolaCount stays open.

Tips and common problems

  • My favorites are gone. They are stored per browser; a new browser, private window or cleared site data starts empty. Add them again.
  • The Contacts button is missing. You need access to both customers and suppliers, or you are on a small screen where it moved under ⋯.
  • An app I use is not in the account menu. You have no role in that app for this organization; ask an owner to grant access in the portal. SolaHR, SolaStock and SolaProjects are the apps listed. The Documentation row below them is not an app; it opens the SolaCount guides.
  • Switching organization reset my language. It should not: the language you chose in the last 15 minutes is carried over. A language set in another tab long ago is not.
  • The page is shifted or narrow in a drawer. Close the drawer with Close navigation and reopen it; resizing the window closes it for you.
  • Dark mode shows a white box. Report it with Report Issue and include a screenshot.
